Snehalaya’ a ‘House of Love’ is an initiative to provide a home for children in need of care and protection. It was officially launched by the ‘Salesians of Don Bosco’ Northeast India on 16th August, 2000 on the 185th birth anniversary of St. John Bosco. However, Snehalaya became operational from January 1st 2001. Snehalaya was founded by Fr. Lukose Cheruvalel in Guwahati. Started as a small shelter home for boys; it has grown into a big tree with 5 Child Care Institutions (CCI) for both boys and girls. Taking the inspiration of St. John Bosco, the founder of Salesian Society, Snehalaya has varied supportive programmes to build the lives of poor and needy children.
To take Children off the street and to put them on their feet, our NGO is committed to providing shelter, education, and opportunities for underprivileged youth. We believe that every child deserves a safe and nurturing environment where they can grow, learn, and reach their full potential.
To provide shelter to the homeless children and to build up their self confidence. To develop the inherent capacities of the young at risk using the educational system of Don Bosco by imparting education and skills training. To advocate for their rights by networking with all like-minded people, government and non-governmental organizations and community based programmes.
To build a child-friendly city and region where all children and region where all children, particularly the young at risk enjoy their rights to survival, protection, development and participation.
